The payoff

I trained very consistently over the summer. Many rides in the heat. I grew tired of the heat. My fitness seemed to be growing some, but, nothing ground breaking. “Why am I doing this?” was a common question.

Today I got my answer. It’s the first cool day of the fall season. I felt like superman on the bike today. Being stronger, able to ride faster and longer now that prime riding weather is upon us feels great. The heat hides a lot of fitness gained. The cooler weather helps reveal it. Those hot summer rides were totally worth it.

The dirty secret of bike riding is you have to ride in the bad weather so you can truly enjoy riding in the good weather. A lesson to keep in mind because after this fall season will come winter and trainer seasons.

Fall leaves

Long steady ride at Zone 2 pace. This fall has been special. Great weather and a sense of optimism.

Fall perfection

Perfect weather today. Long slow but steady ride today at Zone 2 pace. Thankful for the fine weather and beautiful sunshine.

First hint of cold

Cold is always subjective. It’s mid 50a today, and to me that’s cold. While riding, a guy in shorts and a tee shirt rides past. At least it’s sunny.

Leaves are continuing to fall. Normal for November.

Just a simple ride to continue recovering from shingles. My heart rate is high. Being patient with my body.
